• Environmental Conservation and Poverty Alleviation of Tropical America
  The Amazon Conservation Association - www.amazonconservation.org Whether it’s to keep the local streams clean and clear or to keep the world at large a beautiful and bountiful place, almost every angler is an environmental conservationist at heart. Well, the Amazon Conservation association (ACA) has taken a very unique approach in their efforts to conserve the world’s most biodiverse region… In 1997, they starting providing unemployed Peruvians with the means and supplies to harvest Brazilian nuts from the Amazonian forests (which are one the most profitable non-timber resources in the Amazon). This innovative approach to conservation provides labor and income generation to some of South America’s poorest people, and ultimately serves to provide a dual purpose to environmental conservation as thousands now depend on the income generated by ACA’s provisions. Since the inception of this program in 1997, ACA’s “Dual Purpose approach” has also protected over 1.5 million acres and has been replicated by many conservation agencies around the world. We love supporting the innovation of the ACA’s programs and the fact that supporting them means supporting the environment, job creation, and poverty alleviation all in one.
